One Old Septic Truck
Barry Bartlett was working as a carpenter in Weaverville when he came across an old septic truck. He saw an opportunity, made a deal, bought the truck, and started pumping septic tanks for $50 a job. Years later, Barry moved his family to Chico, and Chico Septic was born.
Rachel Learns the Trade
His daughter Rachel grew up around the business. By the time she was 16, she was already helping on weekends and during school breaks, learning firsthand what it meant to work hard, take care of clients, and build a reputation one job at a time.
A VW Bug Becomes a Second Company
Rachel started a company of her own. She sold her VW Bug, took the $4,200 she had, and purchased a pumper truck and eight portable toilets. That small beginning became Johnny on the Spot, a company that grew alongside the communities it served.
Two Family Businesses, One Leadership
Rachel took over Chico Septic from her father, bringing the two family businesses under the same leadership and continuing a tradition that had already been built over decades.
